Hi Folks,
As I mentioned in another thread, March 11, 2011 is a memorable date for me
both because it's when we finalized the GeoReport v2 spec, but also because
it was the date of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Now,
March 11, 2020 marks the day the World Health Organization declared the
COVID-19 coronavirus a global pandemic. The situation reminds us of the
importance of global coordination and good communication and responsiveness
between governments and the public. In the past there has been some
discussion
<http://www.open311.org/2011/07/ushahidi-and-the-open311-ecosystem/> of the
GeoReport spec being adapted as a standard for certain crisis response
efforts, but this was never fully developed.
My office has a specially designated role in the US Government during a
widespread emergency (under the National Response Framework, Emergency
Support Function 15
<https://www.fema.gov/media-library/assets/documents/34369> to help
support digital communications with usa.gov, the National Contact Center,
and other capabilities. I suspect many of you are working in places with
somewhat similar roles, even if just at a city level. With that in mind, I
thought it might be helpful to start a discussion about what examples or
opportunities you've all seen for facilitating better information sharing
or dissemination across government or with the public around the COVID-19
coronavirus pandemic.
Are any of the people working with consolidated contact centers tracking
stats associated with this or helping to aggregate or report up to regional
or national governments?
Any related questions or comments on this topic are welcome.
Best,
Phil
