Subject: Open311 over the summer
Date: Sep 29, 2009 11:29 AM
I know this list has been pretty quiet, but if you follow the blog you'll see that much is abuzz with Open311. The blog has updates mentioning all of the different apps, services, and cities <http://open311.org/2009/09/the-summer-of-311-apps/> that are providing 311 in a more transparent and participatory way. At the O'Reilly Gov 2.0 conference open 311 and related ideas received a fair amount of attention <http://open311.org/2009/09/open-311-at-the-gov-20-expo-and-summit/>, not just with talks specifically focused on the subject, but even woven into other things like discussing twitter and platforms on the web. In part because of the attention this effort has received, I've recently tried to clarify that Open311 aims to serve as a standardized specification for an open platform <http://open311.org/2009/09/open311-is-a-specification-for-an-open-platform/>. Just a few days ago, the final list for Google's Project 10^100 helped to show how important this all is <http://open311.org/2009/09/create-real-world-issue-reporting-system/> by mentioning civic issue tracking in 2 out of 16 proposals narrowed down from 150,000 spanning 172 countries. I'd love to bring some chatter back to this list with your feedback on these updates or questions you might have about where this is all going. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is recharged and ready to collaborate on building more vibrant and engaged communities for all. Also, I think it would be useful if everyone could take a moment to quickly introduce themselves and mention what they would like to see come out of this effort. I'll go ahead and start a fresh thread for that. -Phil -- Philip Ashlock The Open Planning Project - http://www.openplans.org phil@... <mailto:phil@...> | @philipashlock <http://twitter.com/philipashlock> | (360) 389-2741
