Honored to be on the same list with such great folks! I sounds like a great time to start consolidation various open 311 efforts. I was about to approach Sunlight Labs to start something like this. I know that my perspective is a bit different, since I'm on government side, but still I really want to contribute to such initiative. I see that such standardized open 311 with open implementations will lower barrier of entry for governments to open their 311 systems or even build new ones for jurisdictions that are missing such services. Greatest benefits for government such as DC will be distributed effort on creation of 311 software (at least citizen facing part of it). I willing to contribute by sharing DC experience to the very detail. How do we start? -Dmitry (@kachok) Disclaimer: I run OCTO Labs (@octolabs), technology innovation group in DC Government. Of course I'm happy to help were I can as well. As you may know, Dmitry and I have been working ardently on Apps for Democracy "Community Edition" which is focused on application development that uses DC's 311 API (Ben is a participant in that as well). Hi Again Open311, I'm also organizing ParticipationCamp for June 27th and 28th in NYC (just before PdF): http://participationcamp.org I think an Open311 session would be a good fit. I think a brainstorming session would be good, Matt. Or some sort of small and informal "summit". A few years ago I went to a similar Open Gov summit organized by Carl Malamud, and some really good, lasting ideas came out of it. Seems like the time could be right for a similar meeting of minds around an Open 311. Happy to help out however I can on this. Thanks Phil and hello everyone, I'm looking forward to working on this -- the timing is certainly right with all events, tools, and media attention around 311 right now, as Phil described. I'm going to try to make it to Participation camp (just sponsored) and can't make it to PDF due to another conference in DC I have to be a part of. FYI, we just announced the first round winners of Apps for Democracy "Community Edition" and there are some interesting approaches to using DC's Open 311 API. These are rough apps with two more rounds to go prior to completion: check them out here http://bit.ly/apps091.
